The New Mexico Junior Livestock Foundation (NMJLF) was established and incorporated in 1989 specifically to assist in the promotion of the New Mexico State Fair Junior Livestock Sale. The Foundation is a statewide group that recognizes the youth of New Mexico for their dedication and hard work in 4-H and FFA programs throughout the state. NMJLF is an organization administered by an unpaid, volunteer board of directors. The board consists of a minimum of 15 members from which the officers are elected each year with alternating terms. All operating capital is generated from public support and fund raising projects.
Ten local business owners established the Foundation to promote and increase the number of buyers that participate in the NM State Fair Junior Livestock Sale. The original founder and president of the organization was Tom Tinnin who continued on to become the chairman of the NM State Fair Commission. The Foundation has now been passed to the agricultural community to administer.
The Foundation has an established market presence not only at the NM State Fair Junior Livestock Sales, but at the Eastern and Southern NM State Fair Junior Livestock Sales. The Foundation is known and supported by a majority of the agricultural community statewide through their involvement at the Junior Livestock Auctions . Over the years they have expanded their presence and reached out to include non-agricultural audiences who attend and provide support through the NMJLF yearly fundraisers. They will continue to invite supporters to help in their ongoing commitment to raise funds to support and encourage our New Mexico 4-H and FFA students.
